Protecting Digital Assets: Much More Than Crypto

We present the challenges of securing digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies and tokenized securities, in the context of regulated financial organizations. Based on our experience designing and integrating digital asset management technology in Swiss financial institutions, we  describe the typical risks encountered as well as deployment constraints and compliance obligations. Finally, we provide insights regarding the different classes of technologies for securely storing digital assets, from hardware security modules (HSMs) to multi-party computation (MPC) methods, and discuss the critical process of a key ceremony.
