The Center for Seucrity Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich is a competence center for Swiss and international security policy. It offers security policy expertise in research, teaching and consulting.

The CSS has been intensively engaged in the field of cyber security policy, cyber defense, and cyber risk protection for many years.

The CSS combines scientific research with application orientation and direct advice to decision makers. 

As part of this mission, CSS researchers examine the use of digital technologies in politics, society, and the economy, particularly with respect to their potential implications for Switzerland. In this vein, CSS researchers have published extensively on a wide spectrum of security concerns.

The CSS has a range of analytical competencies. Focal points include:   

  • Strategic analysis of the cyber threat landscape   
  • Assessments of national cyber capabilities and cyber defense postures   
  • Political risk assessments for supply chain security   
  • The Impact of AI capabilities on cybersecurity    
  • Challenges involved in attributing malicious cyber activity   
  • War gaming in preparation for cyber attacks
